FASCINATING FASCIA!

Anyone visiting SPACE over the past couple of years will have been aware of the trend towards understanding and treating the web-like fascial tissue of the human body.

Stephen spoke warmly of fascial fitness and mobilisation during his recent workshop in Cardiff at ACPSM which followed the excellent keynote by James Earls described in this blog earlier this month.

We then came across this excellent opinion piece in "Dynamic Chiropractic", a Canadian Chiropractic news source.

It does describe some of the work of fascia "research pioneers" including lectures by Carla Stecco, Helene Langevin, Serge Gracovetsky, Tom Myers, Andree Vleeming and Robert Schleip. Fascia has been shown to slide, to move, to contract and to be critical to sensation.

If you're interested in the science then do read the piece, as it includes information on frozen shoulders and delayed onset muscle soreness, or DOMS, as recognised as 'muscle aching' in the many sportspeople or folk whom have undertaken exercise for the 1st time in a while.

Whilst the treatment of this tissue is often uncomfortable, the benefits can be lasting and significant!
