The Barefoot Running Debate - Getting People Hot Under the Collar

London, November 2011 @UKSEM : one of the eagerly anticipated sessions was a debate between five experts appointed by the UKSEM Committee to spend 90 minutes discussing 'Natural Running'.

The 'host', Ross Tucker, from the University of Cape Town, and also a Consultant to adidas, steered the experts in a number of directions on anthropology, running form & shoe-wearing as a lifestyle choice.

Tucker, Lieberman, Marquardt, Nigg, Barthold, Howell
The other experts were Daniel Lieberman (Evolutionary Biologist, Harvard University), Benno Nigg (Biomechanist, University of Calgary), Matthias Marquardt (Natural Running Coach & Physician), Simon Barthold (Australian Podiatrist & ASICS Global Research Consultant) & 'the barefoot professor' Dan Howell (Anatomy Professor, Liberty University USA).

The debate was passionate, and at times heated. There were voices of reason just as there were accusations & quotations from rival websites.

However, elements of the discussion have spilled out into cyberspace.
This past week has seen a couple of the protagonists reflecting & discussing their parts in the session in the safety of their own blogs.

This provoked this stormy response from Dan Howell:

www.theedinburghphysiospace.blogspot.com will publish the conversation as it occurred in a transcript form later on this weekend. You can then make your own minds up!
