CATA / WFATT World Conference 2011 DAY ONE

So the conference day began with a 0620 am run with the local running club. 6km in an hour at 1500metres above sea level did not seem appealing so i took myself in the opposite direction for a half hour up a hill: subsequently I found that the International Association of Athletic Federations (IAAF) have ruled that performances achieved at an altitude greater than 1,000 metres (3,300 ft) will not be approved for record purposes, so my rapid descent of said hill will not make i any record books. Did not see any elk (unlike yesterday) or bear (now awake we've been informed).

However an excellent start to the congress was made with the Poster Presentations and lecture series. I will post some notes up on here for anyone to access.

Healing your knees starts at the hips

Timing is everything. Fresh from an excellent new study for the scientific and the clinical professionals published in last month's Journal of Athletic Training comes a piece in yesterday's mass market free newspaper, the Calgary Metro. All from the same source: the exact same University Department I visited yesterday!
Both discuss the effect simple hip exercises can have on runners with knee pain, a topic we discussed at some length  in the office of Director Reed Ferber, having had a tour of the excellent University facility and Human Performance Lab.
